The Idea and the Experiment

TABLE FOR FRIENDS is an experiment in cooking. I’m challenging myself to one night a month of cooking a delicious meal for my friends. I decided this year I wanted to combine a few of my goals in hopes of challenging myself while getting to know my new home in Portland, OR. The idea is simple. The ingredients are local. And the friendships are growing. I invite you to pull up a chair when in the Portland area and let me cook for you!

About the Cook

Hi, I’m Jeannie. I’ve been cooking for quite a while now. Really, since I was old enough to stand on a chair and empty a bag of chocolate chips into cookie batter. But it wasn’t until 2005 when the cooking apron beckoned. I was tired of making recipes for large parties. It was just myself at the time—so much waste! I thought, “Hey, I’ll write a cookbook for singles!” Well, jump forward a few years when my life drastically changed. I started travelling. I really haven’t called a place home until now.

After almost three years of travel and bi-continental dwelling; where I’ve tasted some amazing flavours, it’s time for me to jump back in and test some of the tricks I’ve learned from abroad. I’m trying to sharpen my skills and using some of the best local & ethically sourced ingredients. And to do that, it takes a few more mouths around my table.

To be clear though, I am not a chef, I just enjoy cooking. And this is not a restaurant. It’s simply a table for friends.
